The bridge of the USS Venture is the nerve center for the ship, a hub of activity whatever the time of day and the one place where the senior staff regularly meet for duty. Utilizing design elements of the highly successful Sovereign-class bridge module, the command center of the Inquiry-class allows commanding officers to supervise all ship’s operations, ranging from vessel course control to tactical systems. Venture's bridge module features several alterations that have taken advantage of lessons learned from early Sovereign class ships and the newer Odyssey and Curiosity-class designs.

Description On the Inquiry-class USS Venture, the bridge module is one of the most advanced in Starfleet, and has integrated technologies that had been used on newer starships such as the Odyssey-class. The bridge is the focal point of the ‘Bridge Module’ which is located on top of the vessel’s primary hull and takes up most of deck 1. The bridge is the nerve-center of every starship, and it is usually manned by the top officers of each department except for Engineering and Medical, who are present at their discretion and in line with their duties at the time. There is typically an engineering station that the Chief Engineer can use when on the bridge, as well as science stations that the science officer or chief medical officers can use. Most bridges on Starfleet vessels are replaceable modules so that adaptation for special missions or upgrading is expedited.

Venture’s bridge stations are entirely configurable, meaning operations are not confined to one station, or particular area on the bridge. This experimental and unique feature allows the staff complete flexibility over the running of the bridge and is extremely useful in emergency situations where consoles may cease working or additional stations of a certain type may be required.

The bridge command station, often referred to as the 'Command Chair' or 'Captain's Chair', is located in the command arena in the centre of the bridge, and provides seating and information displays for the commanding officer, or whoever is in command of the bridge during that duty shift. There are also two cushioned seats or platforms either side of the command chair for visitors to the bridge, such as the Counsellor, CMO, Diplomatic officers or mission advisors. The command chair is located in the center of the bridge, to maximize interaction with all key bridge personnel, while permitting an unobstructed view of the main viewscreen and holo-communications projectors. Typically, the consoles to the side of the command chair feature a miniaturized status display and other command functions. Using keyboard or vocal commands, the CO can also use controls in the arm of their chair to override the basic operations of the starship.

Due to the nature of the ship’s mission and the inclusion of a Quantum Slipstream Drive, Venture has expanded the remit of the Flight Control department and now, under the new moniker of ‘Flight Operations’, navigation is once again a prominent starship duty station. The Flight Ops Officer works very closely with various officers of a starship with their primary duties being to plot courses, taking into account such phenomenon as the effects of quasars, nebulae, tachyon eddies and the gravitational effects of planets. They are required to constantly review Starfleet databanks for any hazards to navigation that might exist in the space ahead of the ship. They are also in charge of updating all stellar charts via astrometrics and liaising with Stellar Cartography. Amalgamated with the navigation roles mentioned, the 24th century Flight Operations position, also referred to as the Conn, is also where the ship is piloted and the use of auxiliary craft managed. The critical nature of the station demands a humanoid officer to oversee these operations at all times. During spaceflight at impulse, Conn is responsible for monitoring relativistic effects as well the inertial damping system status. When traveling at warp speed, Conn is required to monitor the subspace field geometry in parallel with the operations and engineering departments. During warp flight, the Conn console continually updates the long-range sensor data and makes automatic course corrections to adjust for minor variations in the density of the interstellar medium. Flight Operations is the forward most, starboard positioned duty station.

Many shipboard operations involve scheduling resources or hardware that affect a number of departments. In many such cases, it is common for various operations to present conflicting requirements. It is the responsibility of the operations officer to coordinate such activities so that mission goals are not jeopardized. The operations position, also known simply as Ops, evolved from older 23rd century positions. The bulk of the duties held by the helm and navigation positions were combined into the Conn position whilst the other functions of the helm panel, such as internal systems control, became the purview of Ops, as well as some communications and sensor system usages. The Ops panel presents the operations officer with a continually updated list of current major shipboard activities. This list permits Ops to set priorities and allocate resources among current operations. This is especially critical in cases where two or more requests require the use of the same equipment, entail mutually exclusive mission profiles, or involve some unusual safety or tactical considerations. Operations is located next to Flight Operations as the forward most port positioned duty station.

Key to the ships mission as an explorer is the science division, so it is no surprise that there is a large area of the bridge dedicated to science consoles on the starboard side of the command center. From these consoles, the Chief Science Officer can oversee the functions of all of their sub-departments and even utilize them from the bridge itself. Linguistics, bioscience, stellar cartography, sensor readings, planetary science and probe control are usually the standard science uses on the bridge.

The bridge station directly behind the command chair is dedicated to defensive systems control, starship internal security, offensive weapons systems and other systems critical to the completion of the ships mission. This station is referred to as Mission Operations and is permanently manned by at least one member of the Tactical Operations department. Parts of the default control layout presents the Tactical officer with a wide variety of starship defensive systems, ranging from the defensive shields to phaser and torpedo systems. Other systems that may be commanded by Tactical Operations include communications, long- and short-range sensor arrays, sensor probes, message buoys, and tractor beam devices. The starboard side console is focused on Tactical Operations, whilst the Port side station is focused on Mission Operations. More centrally, there is a schematic of the ship and its shield grid to assist the officers in keeping shield systems online during a variety of scenarios.

Located on the port side wall, adjacent to the science wall, are a number of configurable mission operations stations that can be utilised by departments such as Medical, Intelligence, Strategic Operations and any additional departments the CO may create.

On the aft wall of the bridge are the engineering stations and a fully interactive and reconfigurable Master Systems Display console. From these positions, the Chief Engineer and their staff are able to monitor situations developing in engineering and are even able to reroute some key engineering functions to the bridge in the event of an emergency. It is from the configurable stations on the engineering wall that engineers are able to monitor environmental controls, life support and other such systems.

There is turbo lift access to the bridge both forward and aft, as well as doors linking directly to the ready rooms of the CO and XO, as well as access to the Observation Lounge. In a concealed compartment between the forward stations and the viewscreen there is access to holographic emitter controls and other communications systems via the jefferies tube access hatch.
